Paints- The Elements That Add Colours To Our Life

If you possess an artistic nature, colors may be the first friends you made during your childhood. Keeping your interests in check, your parents may have equipped you with a color kit that you used to paint the walls; no matter how much your parents regretted their decision, you were a little child that felt contented playing with colors.

With the lapse of time, the responsibilities increased and so did the workload, however, these sweet memories of childhood are always to be cherished. Everyone wants to relive those days by one way or another, so if you are looking for an assignment writing topic, why not write on paints, you once had a passion for either way you can take consultation for the topic from an assignment writing service.

Paints are basically a mixture of opaque solids that are dispersed in a liquid medium. The primary constituents of paints include:

• Pigments, also known as fillers, aid to reduce the cost of the paint and help to increase the durability.
• Film-forming materials help pigments to adhere to the surface and form a protective layer.
• Thinner, also known as diluted, is a volatile liquid that helps to suspend pigments and dissolve the film forming materials.
• Plasticizers are used to decrease the presence of cracks from the texture of the paint.

This means that each paint will have distinctive quantities of these constituents and the efficiency of each blend will be different from one another. To avoid the hit and trial method, the relevant authorities have devised a factor called the Pigment Volume Concentration (PVC). PVC is basically a ratio between the volume of pigment in paint and the product of the volume of non-volatile constituents plus the volume of pigment in paint.

The manufacturing process of the paints includes a series of physical steps, also known as the unit operations. Please note, the first operations are housed at the top floor so that the material for the latter steps can be transferred downwards by the help of gravity. A brief insight into the production process of the paints is given below:

The Top Floor: The pigments, film-forming materials, thinner plus plasticizers are assembled in a feed tank and this mixture is stirred in a mixer, similar in nature to a dough kneader. This mixture slurry is then transferred to the floor below.

The First Floor: On this floor, the slurry is ground using a grinding mill, particularly a pebble mill, and this mixture is further agitated. It is vital that the concentration of the pigments and the film-forming agents are accurately maintained during the process of grinding.

The Ground Floor: When the mixture reaches the ground floor, it is thinned and tinted in the large tanks that have an agitator installed. This liquid paint is then strained and stored in a storage tank. Furthermore, these paints are then transferred into cans, packed, and shipped forward to different stores.

This is how paints are created that add a significant volume to the living standards of the human beings. Recall the times you used to mess with such vivid walls and wonder how much colors they add to your life. Pass this information on to make others remember the good old times too!
